Siler City Memorial

Siler City is a small town on US 64.  It may be a small town, but not in heart.  Their veterans memorial is absolutely awesome.

The official name for the memorial is the West Chatham Veterans Memorial.  Learn more about the memorial by visiting the West Chatham County Historical Society web page for the history.

The memorial was dedicated on May, 14, 2006, by the  West Chatham Veterans Memorial Committee.

The citizens chose a park setting near the town recreation park and pool.  It is on a well traveled road and sits on a corner.  You can not miss it!

Heading south through Siler City you will see the familiar brown park signs pointing the way to the memorial.

The names of local veterans are placed on the pillars in random order.  This insures that there is room to add names for future conflicts.  It now holds over 600 names and there is room for about 800.

Why not add this memorial to your points of interest on the way to the North Carolina Zoo?  Let your children visit the memorial and sit awhile.  You can explain to them the meanings of the abbreviations (there is a legend) next to each veterans name.  Be not afraid or hesitant to share our history with our youth.  They are our future.
